Wall Street climbed on Thursday as the Federal Reserve decided to stay put on interest rates. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.54 percent. The S&P 500 gained 0.65 percent. And the Nasdaq Composite added 0.84 percent. All 11 S&P 500 sectors closed in positive territory, led by a 2 percent gain of the real estate sector.
The stock markets have been volatile in recent weeks on concerns over whether the Fed would raise rates. That ended as the Federal Open Market Committee decided to hold interest rates, preserving the low-interest rate environment.
