Today marks the 24th World Mental Health Day. Launched by the World Health Organization, this year's theme is 'Psychological First Aid'.  So, first let's put in some effort to understand the inner world of people who suffer from mental disorders, through art. One such opportunity is to pay a visit to the Jiangsu Art Museum in Nanjing, where the 2016 China–Netherlands Outsider Art Exchange Exhibition opened on Sunday.

25 outsider artists from China and 11 from the Netherlands have displayed 100 works of art.  All these painters have had a mental disorder or are still dealing with one.  Most haven't received any professional art education or training.  Their works are usually called "outsider art" or "raw art".  It offers a path to express the patients' inner world. The method is also used as art therapy.  There's also a lecture entitled "Art and Mental Illness". The exhibition is co-curated by Museum of the Psyche from the Netherlands, "Disability in China" magazine, and the Nanjing Disabled Persons Federation. The exhibition lasts till mid-October, and will then run from late November to next May in Amsterdam.
