As the Battle for Mosul intensifies, the UN has said nearly half a million of the Iraqi city's civilians are facing a "catastrophic" drinking water shortage.

UNICEF reported that an important water pipeline has been destroyed in an inaccessible part of the ISIL controlled city. While residents have blamed the US-led coalition for the damage, a local official suggested the Islamists may have intentionally stopped the flow.
