In October last year, Rousseff restructured the coalition government with a new majority in Congress. Brazil's Federal Court of Accounts recommended that Congress reject the government's explanations regarding tax pedalling.
Then a group of lawyers presented a petition to impeach the president for fiscal irregularities. In May 2015, the political group Free Brazil Movement filed for impeachment against Rousseff. The group submitted its case to Eduardo Cunha, president of the Chamber of Deputies.
On the 25th August, the impeachment trial began. Witnesses for and against were heard at the Senate. Four days later, Rousseff was questioned by senators on charges of breaking budget laws. She denied any wrongdoing. And on August the 31st, Senators voted to kick Rousseff out.
