ASEAN and China have issued a joint statement, reaffirming their commitment to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea or DOC. The two sides also underlined the importance of keeping peace and stability and the freedom of navigation in the region.

ASEAN leaders also said they recognize China's development brings opportunities for countries in the region. They also said they are committed to economic cooperation, including building the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area.

The leaders also welcomed the designation of 2017 as the ASEAN-China Year of Tourism Cooperation. Both sides look to boost two-way tourist visits and promote people-to-people exchanges.
