Singapore confirmed 14 new cases of Zika virus infection on Saturday. The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) said in a joint statement the total number of Zika infections in the country is now 318.

They also report that nine of the newly reported cases are linked to infected clusters. One case is from a new cluster and the other four have no known links to any existing cluster. The statement reiterated the importance of eradicating mosquitoes. Zika virus is transmitted through mosquito bites and sexual contact.

Infection during pregnancy can result in babies with small heads and other brain defects. There is no effective vaccine for Zika as yet.
