The press conference of the fourth session of the 10 National People's Congress, China's top legislature, is currently underway at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing is briefing the nation on Chinese foreign policy and international relations. The highlights so far are President Hu Jintao's future official visit to the United States, Sino-US relations as well as the Taiwan issue.

Li said: "The question of Taiwan is the biggest factor affecting Sino-US relations. We hope the American side will abide by the one-China policy, observe the three Sino-US communiques, and have a clear understanding of the dangerous nature of Taiwan independence, and take measures not to send wrong signals to those Taiwan secessionist elements and work together with us to safeguard peace and stability across Straits and overall interests of Sino-US relations."
