A/H1N1 flu spreads in N. hemisphere

2009-11-06 15:07 BJT

The World Health Organization says the A/H1N1 flu has spread rapidly in the northern hemisphere.

The UN's health body also warns the virus will cause more serious infections and deaths with the onset of winter.

The WHO says pregnant women and people with underlying chronic conditions made up the most at-risk group.

More than 57-hundred people worldwide have died from the flu. But the virus is not known to have mutated, meaning current pandemic vaccines remain effective.

Vaccines given to millions of people in 20 countries in recent weeks have proven to be safe with no unusual side effects.
