DNA tests to identify possible remains of Cao Cao

In China, DNA tests may be used to check if the newly discovered tomb in central China's Henan Province housed the remains of Cao Cao. He was a politician and general during the Three Kingdoms Period, nearly 1,800 years ago.

The discovery of the large tomb in a remote Henan village sparked a fierce debate. Local archeologists believe it belongs to Cao Cao. But many experts doubt the authenticity of the evidence recovered from the ancient structure.

DNA tests may be used to check if the newly discovered tomb in central China's Henan Province housed the  remains of Cao Cao.

Experts with the Shanghai-based Fudan University are hoping to solve the mystery using DNA tests. They will take samples from Cao Cao's descendants and compare the results with the DNA from a skull uncovered in the tomb. Scientists plan to visit regions where Cao's descendants may be living.

Han Sheng, Archeology Professor, Fudan University, said, "According to the lineage, most of Cao Cao's descendants live in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, and Hunan provinces, mainly along the Yangtze River. We'll visit these regions to get DNA samples."

Scientists say the identification of Cao Cao's tomb is just the beginning of their research. They will apply DNA technology in more studies of Chinese history.
